Welcome to my little exercise in learning. While I thought I might open the blog with some profound quote from the pages of Lindbergh, Armstrong or any other shining and inspirational example of fledgling literature, the reality struck me that anyone perusing this work doesn't need to be inspired...
We all dig wings and things already.
We are the folks who develop our dens to look like a techno-masochists' wet dream. Touch screen monitors, LCD peripherals, joysticks-a-plenty and goofy hats with reflectors on them help us navigate our overpriced PCs through to the wild blue. Our wives mock our gaming chairs and bookmarked LAN meet posts while secretly harboring relief that our online indulgences are limited to a benign addiction to "Top Gun" references and 3 week forum battles over the ballistics of a 20mm cannon round fired at a 45 degree dive from angels 4. Family members and guests are confused by our Jeppesen and Tactical Pilotage charts adorning our walls. We revel in our alphanumeric handles like d0o0m and d4rt and aspire to top our leaderboards yet never dare entertain the heresy of presuming we really know what it was like for names such as Hartmann, Boelcke, Rickenbacker or Jo McConnell. We see aviators not Countries or political affiliations. We sympathize and empathize with the horror and honor of history and we appreciate that history through our virtual experience.
Sound familiar?
Don't fret my fellow geek; it's a great time to fit this mould with what appears to be a renaissance of simulator elements ensuring our rose colored glasses will suffer a heavy tint for years to come. Efforts stemming from 777 Studios, Eagle Dynamics and 1C show no lack of vision and certainly imply our hobby will continue to span aviation combat history with a wealth of immersion we will all enjoy.
So strap in, you alphanumeric nerd... I am going to use this blog to capture my thoughts on all the cool stuff hitting our hobby. I imagine much of the content here will be detailing how I learn to use the sims available to me. AARs, if you will, from the perspective of someone learning to appreciate new sims in a market which intimidates so many. I'll walk you through what I have learned about learning to fly titles like the A10-C, and probably venture into WWII once Cliffs of Dover hits the shelves and just maybe you will find it interesting.
Basically, learning this sh*t is fun and I figure thats worth sharing.
